How To Search For Trojans In Your Computer

Search Trojans have been named for the ancient Trojan horse of Troy, since they carry hidden unwanted surprises within them. They are, like all unwelcome intruders, malicious by nature and can cause harm by their ability to communicate with other computers without the knowledge of the computer user.

Unlike viruses they do not duplicate themselves. They make a program that sits hidden in your computers, waiting to be contacted by other computers. Once that contact has been made they can do almost anything. The most aggravating Trojans and potentially the most expensive ones are the “dialer Trojans”. They permit a non-bonafide user to make calls from your computer, thereby foisting an unwanted and unexpected phone bill on you.

Trojans normally enter your computers through downloadable programs from the Net – such as games, free softwares and other unverified small software programs.

Removing a Trojan is not easy, unless you are very familiar with the files in your computer and the makeup of the softwares that you are using. You should be able to make and modify programs before you attempt to remove Trojans without the assistance of any software specifically made for this purpose.

First you have to be sure that there is evidence of a Trojan horse in your computer. Some of the symptoms that you should look for are as follows:

Bounced emails – If you are getting bounced emails – specially emails that you have no recollection of having sent them, then there is some malicious software playing away in the background.

Slower computers – Computers that suddenly slow down probably have Trojans hidden in them. There could be many reasons why a computer slows down, but one of the most common ones is a Trojan Unwanted pop-ups or add-ons – these can attach themselves to your computers and can be very annoying to say the least.

How to search for Trojans – The first place you should look for them is in the Add/remove programs section. Often you will find them lurking over there. Also look for them in the Start-up folders. The best way to search for them is in the Registry – but as we have said before that should be done only by experienced programmers.

There are many programs on the Net that can be downloaded and will help you to search for the Trojans in your computers.
