How To Chose And Secure A Password
Password Security Passwords are such a commonly used feature on all sites that we tend to underrate their importance and make them without taking their importance into consideration. These passwords are used to authenticate your identity before you are allowed access into any kind of secure site. When they have been hacked into, then they are also used by hackers to access your secure information and misuse your data or your bank details etc. Constructing a password for any site requires a little more effort than we normally put into it. Follow a few guidelines when you make a password and your password security will never be threatened: - Do not use your login name or your personal information as your password. Those are the first passwords that a hacker will try to access. Among these are words such as your name or your family name, your birthday, nicknames etc.
- Do not use commonly used words such as dragons, home, food, hamburgers etc. Single long words do not provide enough security, since they are easily guessed by the hackers. Even common names of places and people will not provide adequate protection.
- Mix up your upper and lower case letters when you construct a password. Add some numeric terms or alpha-numeric letters such as @ ( ) % etc.
- Do not reuse a password until at least 12 months have gone past since you last used it.
Once you have made your password, do not ever send it to anyone by email. Emails do not provide enough security and are easily accessible to unwanted prying eyes. Preferably disable the “remember me“ option on your site, so that no one can access your computer . Always change your password if you feel it has been compromised. Do not reply to emails that ask you for your passwords or ID’s, even if you think they have come from the administrator. Above all, remember that passwords are useful only if they remain secret. Do not divulge them to anyone, do not store them in your computer and if you are worried about forgetting them, store them in a file in your mobile or on a paper somewhere else, under a misnomer.
