Protect Your Computers And Your Passwords

Password protected Once you have constructed a good password, which you hope and believe no one will be able to break into, it is important to protect that password. It is not just enough to construct a secure password, it is just as important to protect the password, and also in many cases to protect some files with a password.

The first step to a secure line is to protect your computer with a password. This makes it more difficult for anyone to access your data without a password, and it also makes it convenient for two people to be able to use the same computer, without infringing on the other person’s right to secrecy and privacy.

<>You can also set a password with your screensaver, so that if you have to leave your computer unattended for a short time, no one can stop the screensaver and access your present worksheet or check on whatever you have been working on. It is your responsibility to make your computer absolutely secure.

<>Do not use computers in accessible places such as cyber cafes etc to access your confidential information. If you check your bank accounts and financial statements in such places, they are easily accessible to the next person who uses the computer.

<>If you have files that you would like to be private, then even these can be protected by passwords. Worksheets, documents, softwares, almost everything in your computer can be protected by a password.

<>Now that you have protected your computer, you need to protect your password. The rules are simple – but we tend to forget them and often pay a heavy price for them.

<>Use different passwords for different accounts. If anyone of them gets hacked into, at least the others are safe.

<>Do not send the passwords to anyone by email.

<>If you do need to store your passwords anywhere, to avoid forgetting them or misplacing them, do so in places such as your mobile or in a file somewhere under a different file name, one that only you will recognize.

<>As is evident, the protection of your computer is dependent to a great extent on your ability to generate an inaccessible password, and also your ability to protect that password.
